From Every Stage: Images of America’s Roots Music
features 40 photographs from award-winning journalist and photographer Stephanie P. Ledgin’s book of the same title. Preserved through the lens in candid backstage moments as well as in performance are musicians and dancers representing bluegrass, country, folk, Cajun, blues, Celtic, cowboy music and more. From the Grand Ole Opry to Lincoln Center, Ledgin captures their expressions, gestures and postures in intimate clubs, on international festival stages and at prestigious concert halls. CBS News Sunday Morning anchor Charles Osgood, in his eloquent foreword to the book, invites the viewer to “feel and hear” the music through Ledgin’s photos, a vibrant panorama of roots music genres heard in America and enjoyed worldwide.

From Every Stage: Images of America’s Roots Music (University Press of Mississippi, 2005) offers rare, previously unpublished interviews with key personalities that lend voice and character to the book’s 200 full color and black-and-white photographs, which Publisher’s Weekly Online referred to as an “exhilarating collection.” Previous photo exhibitions include the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum and the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center, among others.

Stephanie P. Ledgin, the 2005 International Bluegrass Music Print Media Person of the Year, came from a diversified music background when she was hired in 1975 as an editor of the seminal bluegrass magazine Pickin’. Since then, her work has appeared around the world in magazines, books, recordings and museums. Ledgin’s first book, Homegrown Music: Discovering Bluegrass was nominated for the Belmont Curb Music Industry Country Music Book of the Year. In May 2007, the International Country Music Conference and Belmont University presented her with the Charlie Lamb Award for Excellence in Country Music Journalism in the career category. Ledgin serves on the Board of Directors of the International Bluegrass Music Association, is a member of the European Bluegrass Music Association and is a founding member of the North American Folk Music and Dance Alliance. A graduate of the first Leadership Bluegrass class (2000), Ledgin was director of the New Jersey Folk Festival at Rutgers University from 1994-2003.
